In 2015, first drug approved by fda specifically for treatment of binge eating disorder. i. Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (vyvanse ): stimulant used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder: antidepressants, antiseizure medications reduce depression and triggers, orlistat (xenical ) and phentermine (adipex-p ) i. Can assist with weight loss: questions about eating patterns can help screen for appropriate treatments, pica, persistently eats nonnutritive, nonfood substances over a period of at least 1 month. i. Clay, dirt, ice, chalk, or wood: serious health consequences, microbial infections. ii. Poisoning from toxins present in nonfood material: gastrointestinal blockages. iv. Nutrient deficiencies: tends to co-occur with other mental disorders. i. Autism or obsessive-compulsive disorder: other specified feeding or eating disorders, subthreshold eating disorders i. Atypical anorexia nervosa: meets most of the criteria for diagnosis of anorexia nervosa but whose weight is still within a normal range. iii.
