Fibrinogen converts to fibrin which starts clotting cascade: inflammation-days, proliferation-weeks. White blood cells travel to the site and fight infection. Vasodilation-widening of blood vessels so nutrients can get there. New connective tissue that forms on surface of a wound using collagen: contraction-weeks. This closes it, makes it smaller, and pulls it under the skin. Wound shrinks by recruiting adjacent tissue and pulling it into the wound. Can make skin pull too tight: remodeling months/years. Effect of stress: large burns, critically ill, traumatic injury stressful, modification of digestion, absorption, metabolism affects use of nutrients, hypermetabolism- The body eats itself to meet demands of injury prioritizes fighting infection.
