Document Summary

Taboos are not morality because you can"t give reasons. Morality is relative to time, and cultures. Morality is the word of the strongest in a society. Morality can change over societies, slavery used to be considered moral. Morality is a matter of cultural opinion and cultural standards and there is no independent standard. One society burns their dead and one society eats their corpses and both thought their cus- toms were the more morally correct option of what to do with the dead But there is no differ- ence in morality, they both believe they should honor and respect the dead. Eskimos share their wives, we would never do that. Each custom is its own standard and different moral codes and no standard to judge whether a society is better than another. Cultural relativists develop a tolerance towards other cultures.
