Vikings are not respecters of boundaries especially not modern ones! National compartmentalization: modern scandinavian nations each in their way place national value in the viking. Age, and fully believe that it was in the viking age that their respective nations were founded and achieved a sense of national habitus, viking age research has been strong marked by nationalistic agendas. A heavy bias for their nations: this distorts our view of the viking age. It makes the situation much more complex, and brings an anachronistic discourse into the discussion about the viking. People are in the now, interpreting past events based on what is going on right now]. Researches, people, journalists all ache to label historical persons, events, and find from the viking age with some modern scandinavian flag. Quite often, this discourse is even implicit or articulated completely unconsciously: written sources from iceland speak of settlers coming from norway and the british.
