State dependence: changes based on life events and life states (blank slate approach) We all start with 13 different types of cards (the same 52 cards), but over the course of our life, our deck starts to change. Ex. you get suspended from school, one of the high value cards is removed and replaced with a low value card. Ex. you live in a 2 parent household, one of your low value cards is removed and replaced with a high value card. Crime is a matter of rational choice: Ex. getting a thrill out of cheating. Swift: violations of defined rules that will result in swift/immediate punishment. Certain: violations will result in certain/guaranteed punishment.
