Document Summary

Unit 4 - chapter 11 - 10/31 & 11/2. Every single new cell needs a complete copy of dna. Each strand of a dna molecule is used as a guide to synthesize its complimentary copy. One of these strands will be from the parent strand. The parent strand is also called a strand. Semiconservative replication means that every time dna gets copied, one copy is completely made of old dna and the other copy is completely made of new dna. Grew cells in broth (liquid with nutrients) for a long time contained. After 1 bout of replication in new light (14n) broth saw slightly lighter dna. After multiple replication saw some dna of previous weight most as an even lighter weight. Use template (old) strand to build a complimentary copy. Must bring in new, appropriate bases to make a complimentary strand. Where doubled stranded dna gets unzipped within a chromosome. A replication fork opens at the origin of replication.
