Increase of railroads meant time shrunk or decreased. Some cities flip back and forth between time zones until 1915. Processing (part rockefeller bought out, then works his way up) Steel is proven as reliable building material after use in long bridge spans. Transforms carnegie steel into the largest steel company in the world. Takes risk that steel is going to be common in the future.
