Rest of the cell consists mostly of carbon-based molecules. Organic chemistry is the study of carbon compounds. These are organic molecules containing only carbon and hydrogen atoms. Larger hydrocarbons are the main molecules in the gasoline we burn. Hydrocarbons of fat molecules provide energy for humans. On a molecular scale, many of life"s molecules are gigantic. Each dna nucleotide has one of the following bases: Nucleotide monomers are linked into long chains called polynucleotides or dna strands. A sugar phosphate backbone joins them together. Two strands of dna join together to form a double helix. Made of base pairs at and gc. Rna is different because its sugar has an extra oh group. It has the base uracil (u) instead of thymine (t) Long starch molecules in pasta and potato. Simple sugars as glucose (sport drinks) and fructose (fruit) Simple sugars and double sugars dissolve readily in water. Disaccharides are double sugar constructed from two monosaccharides.
