The point of rhetorical analysis is to inform the readers about a certain topic from a neutral point of view and go into greater depth of each quote or word that is said. The goal of a rhetorical analysis is to correctly articulate the author"s purpose in detail instead of just saying what they wrote/said. The genre helps bring awareness to a topic and gives the reader a clear understanding on an issue and does so in a non-biased tone. I do feel that my work in this genre was successful because i made sure to not voice my opinion and tried to stay away from general observations and backed up my statements with many quotes from the text. What have you noticed this quarter about your own writing? (tone, style, habits, process) I have noticed that my tone has been changing throughout the quarter because it changes depending on the task i"m given at hand.

Introduce the general issue and its importance

Identify key trends or perspectives

Identify the specific focus of this literature review (your identified issue)

Give a brief outline of the structure of the body

* Body

Cluster your literature around common themes or threads of ideas. Structure your writing thematically and not author by author. This allows you to compare, contrast, and make sense of the different authorsâ perspectives on one point./ And if you find there are a lot of authors with some contribution to one point, then maybe that point needs to be teased out into sub-themes

Try not to hide behind what the literature is saying. Remember, it is up to you to interpret it and make sense of it for your reader. Listing what they have found or believe is part of a literature review, but in itself is not enough, you need to clarify what the reader is to take away from this body of research

Never be afraid to narrow your topic. You have a word limit, which is enough to make one meaningful point, but not to include detail for its own sake. It is better to dig deep into a topic rather than be broad and superficial

You may have to limit your question many times before you finalise your draft. Spend time considering your question/topic, because this provides the guidelines for your writing and your research. You need to have clear guidelines so that you can research with purpose and efficiency, even if these guidelines are modified later. Otherwise a lot of time and energy will be wasted, either, looking at irrelevant material, or material that cannot fit into your review

* Conclusion

Summarize the major contributions, evaluating the current position, and pointing out flaws in methodology, gaps in the research, contradictions and areas for further study

Conclude by summing up and identifying the significance of the topic in relation to the literature

* Please ensure that you write succinctly to avoid wasting your word count. Note that unnecessary words weakens your argument. You should keep within +/- 10% of your word count

* Check for spelling and grammatical errors. Loosing marks from errors that could be addressed through editing is not worth it.

* Make sure that all references are correctly referenced using APA style

* Refer to Unit Guide for more information about the unit requirements

1. Identify the ethical issue within the scenario.

You will identify the ethical issue presented in the scenario.Explain in detail why the ethical issue exists and rules thatgovern the handling of the situation. You must use at least twocredible outside source that supports your assertion regarding theethical dilemma.

2. Answer each of the following questions: ï· Who will potentiallybe harmed? ï· Who will potentially benefit? ï· What (ifany) rights or claims will be violated?

In this section of your answer, you need to address thestakeholders involved in the situation. Then, you need to providean explanation of how those stakeholders will be affected. When youdiscuss who might be harmed by the situation, fully explain howthey will be harmed. When you discuss who will potentially benefit,also share in detail how they will benefit. When you discuss theviolation of rights and/or claims, give details about those rightsand/or claims and why the ethical issue will impact those rightsand/or claims.

3. Discuss your responsibility and obligations as an accountingprofessional.

In the concluding paragraph, discuss how the matter should behandled based on your responsibilities and obligations, as well asyour ethical convictions. Describe in detail why you would chooseto deal with the ethical issue in this manner, from the standpointof responsibility as an accounting professional and from an ethicalstandpoint.

For each scenario, you will create a document that answers each ofthe three requirements presented. You should format your documentusing Times New Roman 12 point font with 1â margins on all sides.Please double space your document. You must use correct APAformatting for all citations and include a separate Works Citedpage for each of the ethical scenarios. Any form of plagiarism withresult in a 0 for the entire Capstone Project and you will receivean F as your final grade in the course.

I would suggest separating each of the three requirements into 3different paragraphs. The key to doing well on this section isproviding detail. While you are only required to provide one pageof written material by the assignment instructions, please notethat you will be graded on content and fully answering (in detail)the three numbered requirements.

Scenario #1:

You are employed as an auditor at a CPA firm. One of your clientsis Camp Enterprises, a company who has become quite successful overthe past 4 years. Increases in earnings have averaged around 15%each year. The corporation is planning on a public offering ofstock in January 2016, which in turn would cause a sizeableincrease in fees for your employer. Furthermore, the additionalfinancing would fund an expansion that would bring new jobs for thecommunity, which would help to stimulate the local economy, andallow the company to diversify their products.

On October 31, 2015, as you are working on the audit for the fiscalyear ending June 30, 2015, an issue comes to your attention thatcould potentially have an effect on the significant increase inearnings for the fiscal year. A very large orderwas slated to be shipped FOB Shipping Point to Coral Creations onJuly
14, 2015. The order was completed and stored in the warehouse butwas not segregated. Management included the selling price andrelated expenses in the net income for the fiscal year ending June30, 2015. If the issue is handled in a way thatdecreases net income, Camp Enterprisesâ net income will be lowerthan the amount reported last year.

Scenario #2:

It is July 3, 2015, and you have just been hired on as a staffaccountant at Pace Corporation. You have been tasked on creatingthe financial statements for the 2nd quarter of the fiscal year,and as you create the balance sheet, you notice an account calledMiscellaneous Equipment in the amount of $395,000. This is arelatively large account balance compared to the other fixed assetaccounts, and you are a bit unsure how to classify the account forreporting purposes, since you havenât even found a depreciationschedule for the account.

In order to get more information, you go to the Controller, ScottSmith, and ask about the account. He replies, âThat account needsto be included under Property, Plant & Equipment. Because ourbusiness is cyclical, and we always show higher profits in thethird and fourth quarters of the year, we put all of our equipmentrepair expenses in that account and then expense them off when wehave more revenue to offset it in the last two quarters of theyear. This keeps us from having to show losses in the first andsecond quarters of the year, and makes all of our quarterly reportslook good. It really doesnât matter because our yearly totals areall the same regardless of how we report repair expenses in each ofthe quarters. Weâve done it this way for years, and that is how Iwant you to report it.â

You are an in-house staff accountant at Ocean Petroleum, Inc.(OPI), a publicly traded company with a calendar year-end. OPI hasrecently expanded its land-based operations to include constructingand operating offshore oil platforms. OPIâs first offshore platformbegan operating off the coast of Alaska on January 1, 2017. Thetotal capitalized cost of constructing the platform was$100,000,000 and the deep water drilling rig will be depreciatedusing straight-line over its useful life of 10 years. As a resultof legislation following the 2010 BP oil spill, OPI is required todismantle and remove the platform at the end of its useful life.OPI currently estimates that it will cost approximately $2,158,932to dismantle the platform in ten years. OPIâs current cost ofcapital is 8%.

Walt Grimwald, OPIâs Chief Financial Officer (CFO), hasextensive experience in retail auto dealerships but is new to theoil and gas industry. He is very familiar with car warranties but,as he told you in your meeting with him today, he is âunsure how tohandle this warranty to dismantle the drilling rig.â He hasrequested you analyze whether OPI must account for this expectedfuture cost in 2017 or at the end of 2026 when the platform will bedismantled.

Grimwald has also expressed concern over making futureestimates, especially labor. Even though these estimates arereasonable enough for accounting purposes, it has been Grimwaldâsexperience with auto warranties that estimates are just that âestimates. He would prefer not to book any additionalexpenses in 2017 because OPI is just barely expected to meet WallStreetâs earnings forecast. Therefore, he would like to wait until2026 or some other future year and obtain a more accurate cost ofdismantling and removing the platform. Grimwald strongly believesthat this will result in more reliable financial statements.

Grimwald would like you to write a âshort memoâ explaining youranalysis of the issue he has presented to you. Grimwald isdata-driven. He likes spreadsheets and is especially fond ofjournal entries. Therefore, you will need to support your advicewith a schedule - for Accounting 351 only; the schedule canbe excluded in your subsequent 351COM submission. Grimwaldalso likes his staff accountants to communicate their criticalanalysis of such financial accounting problems, so be sure to offeran analysis in which relevant FASB ASC standards are applied tofacts to support your analysis..

Based on your research and analysis, prepare a one-page memo inyour role as an Staff Accountant to Walt Grimwald, CFO, as he hasrequested. Along with the appropriate in-text citations, pleaselist your references on a separate page attached to your memo (Page2).

Your memo should offer your analysis supporting your conclusionsand recommendation that Grimwald has requested (see above). Pleaseremember to prepare a schedule for submission in Accounting 351only. The memo, plus reference page, is to be submitted in bothAccounting 351 and 351COM.

Format and Submission

Your memo must follow the CSUN Memo Format, available inAppendix B of the 351COM Student Manual available on the 351COMcourse Moodle page. Based on the facts given above, the headingshould include the name and title of the recipient, your name andtitle, the date (memoâs due date) and a subject that uses key wordsto accurately phrase the topic of your memo with sufficientspecificity and conciseness.

As noted above, please list your references on a separate page(Page 2) attached to your memo.
