New choir in st. denis: commissioned by abbot suger, 1140-1144, new semicircular apse added to the existing church, comparison to romanesque churches. St denis thin supports for wall of colored glass. Why change: luminosity of objects, reflection and refraction of light, multicolored, luminous objects bring suger closer to god, light (and colored light) = divinity.
