Results and discussion (include spectroscopy when discussing purity) Sorbyl alcohol reacted with maleic anhydride in a diels-alder reaction. About 0. 2 grams of product was obtained through the reaction. The structure of the product was observed through analysis of the ir and 1h nmr spectrums. The ir resulted in a broad peak at 2980 cm-1 indicating the presence of an oh group. 1775 cm-1 indicating the presence of a c=o. 1h nmr spectrum indicated presence of aromaticity, double bond, and carboxylic acid.
