ENGL 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, Ash Carter
Document Summary
Females in the military: to be or not to be. Secretary of defense, ashton carter, announced last year that beginning 2016, all military occupations and positions will be open to women (pellerin, 2015). The idea of equality has now been implemented based on the requirement that if women qualify and meet the standards, they should be able to be involved in the military. All services will be open to females, even the special forces such as the army rangers, green berets, navy seals, and marine. This impacts my future, because i am involved in the naval reserve officer training corps (nrotc) program over at upenn. However, unlike my other female counterparts, i am the only incoming freshman who is a marine corps midshipman. The marine corps have asked for an exemption for allowing females in areas like infantry, machine gunner, and fire support reconnaissance just to name a few.
