Secondary data analysis: when you have the opportunity to analyze data that"s already collected for a different study; don"t really have control over methods, parameters, design, but still need a research question, hypotheses, and analysis. Systematic review overview: attempts to collate all empirical evidence that fits pre-specified eligibility criteria in order to answer a specific research question. Key characteristics: clearly defined research questions i. 100, 95, 90, or 80 percent adherence to measure adherence to medication; also compared studies that they had full-text articles vs those they only had abstracts for. In final proposal include either a conceptual model or a flow chart: moderator vs. Mediation: moderator: a third variable that affects the association between the iv and the dv, ex. Neurocognitive impairment is the mediator between cocaine dependence and lower medication adherence: measured looking at effect of iv on mv, mv on dv, and iv on dv, proving causality, co-variation, directionality, ruling out confounding factors.
