Conflict view is that human behaviour is shaped by competing interests and that those who maintain power will use it to further their own needs. This includes shaping law to benefit those interests. Social construction focus on why certain types of behaviour are called crime or identified as problems and how law is created and the creation of new legal/deviant categories at risk youth". My research interests lie in how harming / injurious behaviours and different types of victimisation get acknowledged and action taken in consequence. When we think about explanations we shouldn"t look for one complete or ultimate explanation. How the criminal justice system responds to offenders. How broader public policy impacts on the extent or way in which external factors may influence the rate, type or even the risk of offending. How perceptions of risk of victimisation impacts on community behaviour.
