Among associates, attrition at law firms is 78 percent by the time they are in their fifth year of practice, according to a 2005 report released by the national association for law. Partners move too: last year 2429 partners lft their firms for other attorney jobs, compared with 2081 departures in 2004. Nearly had (42%) of all entry level associates who left a law firm job chose another law firm as their subsequent employer. Entry level associated also acquired government legal positions at a relatively high rate (12. 1%). About that same percentage of lateral associates (13. 7%) took legal jobs in business. Satisfaction with being a lawyer seems to be high and steady despite other claims. One aspect is the large entry of women into the profession.
