The enzyme Rubisco catalyzes the first step of photosynthetic carbon fixation in plants and algae. Rubisco can use either CO2 or O2 as a substrate; when CO2 is used, the result is a net gain of carbon for the plant. When Rubisco uses O2 as a substrate, there is no net gain of carbon; instead, the plant actually uses extra energy to convert the product of this reaction to a useful molecule. Part 1. With respect to CO2 fixation by Rubisco, what term describes the role of O2? Question 7 options: allosteric inhibitor competitive inhibitor non-competitive inhibitor allosteric activator
