The united kingdom has mostly resisted codification of it"s laws. Businesses thrive when laws are clear and uniformly applied across the country. Some aspects of british commercial law have been codified. The sale of goods act was successful was it was fair, clear and predictable. Judges refer to these acts as codes and respect them in making rulings. These codes are more basic and lightweight in comparison to standards across europe. Judges argue they do not make law but merely interpret legal rules made by others. Courts decisions are binding meaning when a case is decided upon future courts must reflect upon this case when deciding a similar case. A court can distinguish the difference between this case and the precedent. The uk supreme court has the power to overrule a previous decision. Judges are given the power to interpret statutes.
