In consuming certain products, we are connected to the capitalist world economy to different places (and people) that are part of the production process. Commodity chains link the progression of a commodity from its design, the procurement of raw materials, production, export to point of sale, distribution for sale, marketing and advertising. Commodity chains are a way of understanding the connections between different worker, consumers, firms, and institutions and places involved in a commodity"s story. Tariffs, trade agreements, taxation structures, land ownership rules, environmental regulations. Limit the quantity of certain products being imported into a country. Places within a region or country where foreign investment, jobs, and infrastructure are concentrated: usual capital cities on the periphery, seat of government, jobs, universities, museums, convention centers. Mnc"s concentrate activities in a particular place (usually near resources).
