Ethnicity: an affiliation with a group whose racial, cultural, religious or linguistic characteristics, or national origins distinguish it from the rest of the population. Ethnic group: a group whose members perceive themselves as different from others because of a common ancestry and/or shared culture. Linked to our ancestors and to specific cultural tradition. We can see the spatial manifestation of ethnicity(& ethnic groups) in many ways e. g: walking through neighbourhoods. Ethnicity, religion and language: mechanism through which culture is expressed. Ethnicity is dilutable: (can be mixed, spanish mixed with french) Origin of ancestry: the roots or ethnic background of an individual via their famililal history. Race: based on genetically imparted physignomical features(mostly facial features) of an individual(skin colour etc) Issues: significance of race as a social construct. Issues: changing use of terms over time:negro, black, african american, etc. Identity: a self-identification of how an individual perceives themselves, rather than their ancestors.
