Most know about orientation early on in adolescence, know they are different, don"t make public till early 20s. But now the number is decreasing in age. Parents reaction most predictive of good outcomes for these kids. No parental support, teens higher risk depression, drug use, suicide. Research less common in this age group. Number situation in which you see this behavior. Has to influence many places, home, work, activities. Long-term, 6 months or more of symptoms. Some event based, initiated by specific event. Had underlying biological predisposition, stress negative event pushes them over the edge. Feeling sadness, worthlessness, low energy, lack interest. 2x as often in women than men, 25% women in united. States diagnosed at some point in their lives. Diagnosis increase with age (encounter more health problems and face death) more common in older individuals.
