Texas: advanced directives act (1999): futile care law. Healthcare facility can without life sustaining treatment (passive) against wishes of patients or family if medical team decides treatment is ineffective. Have 10 days to find other care. Advertised as a humane way to treat patients that are terminal. 4x this has happened (documented) birth defects, cancer that are 100% fatal. Controversial figure, done on patients in a cancer ward (children) process of dying and grieving of yourself. Wanted to talk about own death but no one else did: have questions and concerns, feelings. Went through stages in coming to grips with their own deaths, processing their own deaths. Sure this is a mistake, lab results are wrong, some kind of mistake. Pretending they are fine, request to test again, cured. Bargaining: toward health (jealous) blame god, feel cheated. Religious beliefs, tradeoff: if let me live then i will be a better person.
