Motives, intentions, goals, strategies, and how people perceive and construct the world. Assessment- measurement of relatively stable attributes of people. Person makes comparisons among their own characteristics. Uses a stack of cards with various characteristics. Individual places cards into a pile indicating how descriptive each card is of himself or herself. Typically yield rich information, but validity is questionable. More valid, but usually do not reveal individual nuances. Document analysis: careful analysis of writings such as letters and diaries. Can be very rich source of information. Ex: diaries from a set of nun. The goal is to gain access to unconscious motives and concerns. Provides an unstructured stimulus, task, or situation to which the person responds. Draw-a-person, rorschach inkblot, thematic apperception test (tat) Some skill clinicians may be able to get information not captured in other types of tests.
