To examine how phenotypes may be attributed to variation in genotypes. People who are related to different degrees. Behavioral genetics are now exploring how genetic profiles relate to personality traits rather than single genes in isolation. The picture is sure to get more complicated. Addresses how patterns of behavior that characterized all humans may have originated in the survival value of these characteristics. Assumption: behavioral patterns developed bc necessary for reproduction. Identify common behavior patterns and then determine how the behavior was adaptive. Men place higher value on physical attractiveness and prefer younger mates. Women place higher value on economic security and prefer older mates. Both of these increase the likelihood of having healthy offspring who will survive and reproduce. Attraction is influenced by more than physical characteristics- how inconvenient fro theory. Larger women used to be considered ideal. Women who are too thin cannot bear children. Male physical attractiveness is more important to women than it should be.
