Document Summary
Write items that seem directly, obviously, and rationally related to what is to be measured. Items mean same thing to test taker and creator (use simple language, sayings, not anything time related) Test taker can make an accurate self-assessment. Test taker is willing to make an accurate, undistorted report. Identifies groups of things that seem to have something in common . Consider what the items that group together have in common and name the factor. Factor loadings: correlation of item with the factor. Higher factor loading is better (at least higher than 0. 3) How much an item goes together with this intangible thing. Junk in=junk out; items must be representative. Identifies traits or items that go together, but not the reason why. Reduce list of traits to an essential few. Premise: certain kinds of people answer questions in certain way.
