Communal relationships: relationships in which people"s primary concern is being responsive to one another persons needs. Self evaluation maintenance theory (tesser): discrepancies between two people in a relationship. Two people in a relationship each aim to keep themselves feeling good psychologically throughout a comparison process to the other person. Self-evaluation is defined as the way a person views him/herself. Process of social penetration (altman & taylor) Reciprocity norm: i give you something you give me something. There are people who don"t necessarily get these norms. Passion- motivational component; romantic and sexual attractions. Commitment- cognitive component; decisions about the relationship. A woman meets up with some men after they come off of bridges- The men who came off of the dangerous bridge were more likely to call and misattributed their arousal to the woman. Social exchange theory : rewards vs cost, deserve and comparison level. Investment : independent factor in a relationship whether or not you stay or leave.
