Psychological assessment: the process of gathering info about a person so that you can make a clinical decision about that person"s symptoms. Funnel approach: used to collect info from patients in the order from broad to narrow when they detect problems. Mental status exam: in emergencies, asks patients what their name is, what year is it, etc. to find out their mental state. If they"ve tried to hurt themselves or others. Structured clinical interview for dsm disorder: directly probes for the existence of the criteria for disorders in the dsm-5. Goes along with a cultural formulation interview. Which assess the symptoms/ disorder in the context of culture. Psychosocial stressors and cultural features of vulnerability. Cultural features of the relationship between the individual and the clinician. The purpose of this is to come to a diagnosis. Validity- if a test measures what it"s supposed to measure. Diagnosis: does the client"s syndrome match as known dsm-5 disorder.
