Worldview system of beliefs that are interconnected. Dominant system of beliefs from 300bc to 1600ac. Earth is located at the center of the universe. Moon, planets and sun revolve around the earth (24h) Sublunar region (between earth and moon, incl earth): four elements earth, water fire, air. Superlunar region (f moon, sun, planets, stars): fifth basic element: ether. Essential nature is reflected in the way that elements tend to move. Water: toward the center of the universe, not as strong as earth. Air: toward a region above earth and water, below fire. Fire: away from the center of the universe. Sublunary region: object comes to a halt because it has reached its natural place in the universe or because something prevents them from continuing toward their natural place. An object remains stationary unless there is some source of motion. All of the beliefs are wrong but justified at his time.
