Director: person responsible for the overall unity of a production and for coordinating the work of contributing artists. Responsible for many things including: giving the play a dramatic purpose, casting characters, holding auditions, working with the other designers, running rehearsals, giving actors their blocking, keep in mind stage picture and pace, and run technical and dress rehearsals. Auteur director: director who believes that his or her role is to be the author or a production. The stage manager deals with the business side of the production. Things like: raising money, getting rights to script, renting out theatre space, and keeping production on budget. Proscenium: stage set up like a picture frame. Seats are usually on an incline for best viewing. Thrust: stage is a semicircle and audience is seated on three sides. Arena: stage is a circle and audience surrounds the stage. Scenery is unnecessary and performers enter and exit through aisles through the audience.
