PSY 442 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Aphasia, Neurology, Pierre Marie
Document Summary
The deductive diagrams, such as those proposed by wernicke and lichteim, were created in order to provide some order and rigor in the study of aphase typealterations. In addition, they considered the property to be of scientific value since they were able to apply theoretical principles to a wide variety of symptomatology and manifestations that at first glance seemed to oppose any attempt at. The drawback was, without embargo, that they reduced a function as complicated, as was language, to a mere grouping of verbal images (acoustic, visual, etc. ), and their disorders to the loss of such images (benton, 2000). Wernicke and lichteim are considered the highest representatives of localizationism in germany, although the influence of the german school in countries such as france is also represented by authors such as joseph jules dejerine (1849-1917). Considered the greatest defender of the diagrams, dejeri ne"s workcontributed to the differentiation of two variants of broca"s aphasia.
