Document Summary

In a strict sense, self-destructive tendency refers to a series of behaviors that can cause harm, physical, emotional or psychological, to the person who carries them out. The behaviors of people with this type of tendency constitute a continuum, that is, there are more serious and there are less serious, but all of them can carry a risk to the integrity of the individual . "self-destructive tendency" should not be confused with "self-harm" as if they were synonymous terms. They are not, but the second could be included within the first. Sometimes it may seem that the person controls them, or gives the feeling that doing them has more control of their associated anxiety. Others might think that those who do it are only trying to get attention, however, this may be an indication that they require help and that they are not being given adequate attention and importance.
