False consciousness -make people believe what untrue. Ideology also refers to a set of beliefs that simultaneously reflect and distort social reality. State= broadly defined as the organs of political authority and ideological processes that underpin their legitimacy. The rule of law" and equality before the law" are thus legal fictions that entice the public into complying with the will of the powerful. In one time it was perfectly legal to chop down woods, then suddenly it became illegal because it was owned by capitalists.
