Music as a symbol used to get across the desired meaning of a ritual. Music can be interwoven in the learned traditions of a culture. In order to bridge the music symbolism gap between cultures, some artists are employing syncretism (fusion of elements from 2 different cultures) to help convey meaning. Defined as the study between music and other aspects of culture. Four major concerns of ethnomusicology: ideas about music, social structure of music, characteristics of the music itself, material culture of music.
