Evaluating employee performance: occurs through formal annual evaluation process, frequent feedback/coaching. Manager should never wait until annual review to discuss problems/deficiencies. Consistent ongoing feedback/coaching about job performance clarifies expectations, improves work quality, and allows managers to correct problems before they become serious. Feedback can occur in brief, spontaneous interactions or planned sessions. Discuss situations in neutral way avoid judgmental language, encourage person to provide their perspective on their perspective of the situation, encourage person to reflect on their performance through open ended questions: Be specific and provide clear examples when possible, share your own experiences if they are relevant/might help, be sincere, provide feedback with clear intent of helping the person improve, be realistic.
