Somatization disorder illness but for which no medical case can be found. Multiple physical symptoms that can"t be explained due to medical cause. Complaints must fall into 13 of 35 symptom categories (ex. sexual and gastrointestinal problems) Resembles hypochondriasis (preoccupation with having a serious medical condition despite significant evidence to the contrary) Environmental influences (past relatives have had incidence to alcohol, criminal activity, etc. ) Symptoms that affect motor or sensory functioning that appear to be related to a neurological disorder but don"t actually have an identifiable cause. Must be associated with an apparent psychological reason for symptoms. Permit person to avoid an unpleasant activity. People are open about their symptoms and are not upset by them.
