O reinforcement: positive give: something desirable, negative take away: something aversive, unpleasant or undesirable. Positive give: something aversive, unpleasant or undesirable. Social learning theory: bandura & walters, cognitive-behavioural theory. We learn how to act by observing others or from information contained in books or on television and movies. Self-control (people playing a role in monitoring and regulating their behaviour) Self-efficacy (belief that one can enact behaviour and confidence in one"s abilities) Dysfunctional behaviour is something that is learned, and can also be unlearned. Mediation: simple stimulus-response model does not account for the acquisition of all human behaviour but rather a number of individual characteristics appear to influence the response to a stimuli: expectations, abilities, appraisals, feelings etc. Cognitive theories it is what the person perceives, remembers and thinks that causes dysfunctional behaviours. 2 principals: thinking affects emotions and behaviour, thoughts can be monitored and changed, by alternating one"s thoughts can experience desired behavioural/emotional change.
