Adams (2000: 373) says deviance is the label for all forms of behaviour that are considered unacceptable, threatening, harmful or offensive in terms of the standards or expectations of a social group or particular society. The behaviour violates the standards of conduct or expectations. Giddens (2001:203) says deviance maybe defined as non-conformity to a given set of norms that are accepted by a significant number of people in a community.
