Document Summary

Somewhat similar to working with kids: but don"t want them to feel offended. Very hard to follow their conversations with each other. Could ramble on for a very long time thinking they make sense aren"t confused by their own gibberish. Need to use facts with older people. Would answer questions with previous question"s answers. Loving lies": say what makes the other person feel validated. Emotion and body language matter more than your actual worlds: matters how it feels to the other person. Reality orientation vs loving lies: sounds terrible to clients bringing them into relatiy". Heightened anger/anxiety/fear among dementia patients: corrected almost every time open mouth. Want to encourage communication: reality orientation (exp. No its april, no you live in nc) does the opposite: they thought ro would retrain brains, facts would eventually stick not the case. Stopped reality orientation in early 90"s: clients are much happier because they are constantly being validated.
