The hell that we are in is the recognition that we are something other than what we claim. All we have is meaning and that"s the problem ew cannot transcend meaning which imposes limitations on what we are and we can not break the trap of language. Takes us back to the pre-symbolic world. Punished for their apathy and indifference to good and evil. First thing dante sees as he goes into hell (on the gates) Bateman is talking about the fashion that people are wearing. People are the symbols of these things. Wearing our signification, i am human , the same as saying the designer you are wearing. Drives resid in the id (unconscious) but we have no access and it has no order because it does not have language. To hold in suspension (not right now) You don"t want to do that right now maybe later but not now. Says no you don"t want to do that.
