➢The hook: anecdote or scene that humanizes the issue/trend
â– Anecdotes are a short story that encapsulates an issue, it can be a
paragraph or longer, for a 500 word story it’s one or two grafs
■To get an anecdote, ask “tell me” questions that solicit anecdotes,
then ask for details ex: tell me about the day you knew you had an
addiction, the day you found out your medical condition
â– You need to paint a picture for your reader, to do so you need the
source to visualize the experience for you, get descriptions of the
place to set a scene, if there was action, have the person explain it
in detail, ask what the person said to get dialogue material
➢The scope: 1-2 short grafs

â—ŹGives the big picture
●Explains why it’s happening
●Gives context on why it’s happening
â—ŹQuantifies the issue with a bit of data, study, poll or stats
●Don’t go into detail here, give the readers parameters, think
