Document Summary
Adaptation and evolutionary processes: natural selection. If there are individuals that vary in a trait that affects reproduction and this can be passed on then it will affect the number of offspring produced and the group will change over time: artificial selection. Breeding specific animals together can affect overall populace. Darwin discovered variation in single species (i. e. difference in the coloration of mollusk shells) (cid:858)the struggle for existence(cid:859)- all organisms produce more offspring then can survive. Allows for natural selection based on who is most fit to survive in their environment based on their traits. Generally any change that increases organism survivability or efficiency: evolution. Changes in allele frequency over multiple generations. Variation in ability to survive or reproduce. Occurs as a result of random mutation when reproducing. In 1977 there was a drought affecting the amount of seeds produced. The fewer amount of seeds affected finches as the remaining seeds were harder than before.
