Document Summary

Needs funding to help solve the problem and do better interventions. Compulsion to seek and take a drug of abuse. A loss of control in limiting drug intake. May want to stop taking it, but don"t have the ability or control to change it. Emergence of a negative emotional state when access to the drug is limited. Do in order to reach a certain goal or end. Persists even in face of severe negative consequences. Most people who use drugs don"t become addicted. If consuming the substance creates a problem and you do it anyways. Important to make the link between the problem and substance use. A lot of people, even though experiencing a negative consequence, do not make the connection that the problem is a direct link to the substance use. Indicated by larger doses of substance being needed. Repeated use in situations where it is physically dangerous. Continued use despite problems caused by the substance.
