Lecture 15: place (scene) recognition (3/26/18 and 3/28/18: why care about scene recognition, scenes are special , crucial for our survival, special cognitive signatures, dedicated neural regions, patients with topographical disorientation. He could not say how to get from his house to the corner grocery store, a trip he had made several times a week for more than 5 years . Got out of my bed and could not recognize the bedroom. I went to the toilet, i had difficulty finding my way and recognizing the place . it was a strange place to me . I can mentally walk the streets of hamburg, but if i"m actually standing in the street i don"t recognize where i am : cognitive signatures that are scene-specific. Gist : we recognize scenes thru gist - without all for the object information, scenes are not just a compilation of objects.
