The 2 scenes cut together take place in different places and usually climax with the 2 scenes intersecting

Although the two shots may have actually been shot hours apart from each other, cutting on action
gives the impression of continuous time when watching the edited film.
By having a subject begin an action in one shot and carry it through to completion in the next, the editor
creates a visual bridge, which distracts the viewer from noticing the cut or noticing any slight continuity
error between the two shots.
What is Dynamic Editing-cutting?
Combining a series of seemingly unrelated shots, objects, people, situations, details and characters in
juxtaposition with one another (a form of montage, opposed to continuity cutting).
What is Continuity editing / cutting?
The conventions through which the impression of an unbroken continuum of space and time is
suggested, constructing a consistent storyline out of takes made at different times.
What is the 180 Rule? (side line)
The 180 rule ensures continuity for the viewer on screen
What are Transitions?
Transitions are cuts between shots
There are 4 common ways to (transition) cut between shots.... What are they?
STRAIGHT SHOTS
Where 2 shots are cut together immediately
DISSOLVE/CROSSFADE
Where to shots fade into each other, This can be used to slow down the pace of a sequence down or to
signify a passage of time
FADE
This is where a shot fades to or from a single colour usually black or white
