PCB 4594 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Kidney Development, Sox9, Leydig Cell
Myocytes
Muscle cells used in skeletal muscle development
What are the 2 main components of kidney development?
Nephritic duct
Nephrogenic mesoderm
What are some important genes needed for the development of the kidney?
GDNF & RET
FGFR1 (loss) = complete absence of kidney
Mindbomb = part of Notch, crucial n kidney development
Differentiation in Males
SRY & SOX9
-expressed in Sertoli cells
Leydig cells expressed only if SRY & SOX9 are present
-expressed testosterone
Differentiation in Females
SRY not present so WNT and FOX12 are made.
-thecal cells are made that express estrogen
Hematopoiesis
Formation of blood
Primitive Hematopoiesis
Occurs early in development
