Psychology: study of human behavior and thought process. Developmental psychology: changes over time to human behavior and thought process. Was limited to infancy, childhood, adolescence, because these stages were viewed as truly developmental- lots of physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral growth. Recently takes more of a life-span approach with equal attention to life stages. Dp does not occur neatly in discrete stages. This does not mean the all people of the same age are experiencing the same physical, cognitive, or social development. Can be seen in both children and adults (some are signi cantly more mature than others) Chronological: age may signify an approximate stage of development. Social: ways in which people interact, could be ahead or lagging behind their peers. Psychological: various mental activities that change over time (memory, self-esteem, etc) Scienti c method or experiment that can establish cause and effect relationships between variables. Including: biological, psychological, social, emotional phenomena that may uctuate between individuals.
