Peer pressure: peer influence to behave or act a certain way (mostly around 10-14) Most adolescents are involved in after school activities. Participation in any activity is related to academic achievement. Intimacy: feeling of closeness and interconnectedness with another person. Children"s friendships tend to be activity based, little intimacy. Close relationships and opposite sex peers become important (adolescents) Emphasis on intimacy and close relationships, supported by social cognitive capabilities. Erikson: cannot have intimacy without knowing who you are. Sullivan: need for intimacy comes before the need for identity. Both identity and intimacy appear to be important in adolescence (concurrent) Infatuation: excited to be in a relationship and disclose personal info. Status: concerned about how others perceive the relationship. Intimacy: partners are attuned to the emotional connection they share.
