Document Summary
Evaluation in the educational setting has several purposes. Evaluation is used to assess the achievement of individual learners, diagnosing learning difficulties of either an individual student or a group of students, and appraising the educational effectiveness of curriculum, instructional materials, Students are evaluated for a number of reasons. Evaluation is the means students are initially accepted into programs of study. A review of their previous scholastic standing and extracurricular activities is used to select students for admission into health professions programs. Once in these programs, evaluation is used to monitor progress through the achievement of proficiencies and objectives. Instructors are evaluated on the behaviors and skills they exhibit in the classroom. Courses and/or programs are evaluated to determine if resources are being used effectively and efficiently to achieve goals, and whether they are appropriate to the health profession. Time - when the evaluation takes place and how long are: in what context will the evaluation take place? two important considerations.
