Evaluation in the educational setting has several purposes. Evaluation is used to assess the achievement of individual learners, diagnosing learning difficulties of either an individual student or a group of students, and appraising the educational effectiveness of curriculum, instructional materials, Students are evaluated for a number of reasons. Evaluation is the means students are initially accepted into programs of study. A review of their previous scholastic standing and extracurricular activities is used to select students for admission into health professions programs. Once in these programs, evaluation is used to monitor progress through the achievement of proficiencies and objectives.
