Self- control= order or control: you don"t eliminate appetite or spirit, just control them. From the whole city not just one part: one class could cause harm w/o self-control. Example: guard dog [guardian: full of spirit/aggression and appetite, helpful if channeled and controlled. Justice: in retributive/ justice system justice= Don"t take what belongs to someone else: in distributive justice of city justice= Each part of the city does it own job or function. No part interferes with the other doing its job. No one tries to do the job of a class different from their own. No one tries to do the job of more than one class. Socrates has the guardians: live a communal life- like a military camp, their needs provided for by the city, but they don"t hold property of their own, family ties are common too.
