PHI 2000 Lecture 3: Logic handout 2
Document Summary
Phi 1010 intro to philosophy dr. whitehouse. Logic handout 2: argument charts are a way to represent an argument so that the terms, statements and logical structure can be clearly seen and evaluated. Argument charts help us to analyze arguments by reducing them to their main claims and by showing which moves are crucial to the argument and which ones might be questionable. They can help us construct stronger arguments by concentrating on the main terms, claims, and logical connections. This can help you become a better writer, by providing a skeleton for the argumentative structure of a paper. It is also a good tool for reading critically, by extracting the basic argument from something we"ve read. An argument chart represents only the main claims and connections of an argument, without the examples, repetition, or introductory material that you might find in a prose essay.
