Document Summary

Adaptability (plasticity)- half a brain taking over the other half when it was removed. Electrochemical transmission- how thoughts come into your brain. Afferent - nerve impulses coming from our body into the brain. Efferent- connections to the muscle- what your brain tells you to do. The autonomic nervous system (sympathetic because danger is happening)- don"t have to think about it, makes muscles move. Accelerates heart beat, enlarged pupils, dries your mouth in scary situations, inhibits digestion (shuts everything down ,conserves energy, you don"t need to immediately survive) When it returns to a parasympathetic nervous system to regain all the functions you lost (contarcats pupil, salvation again, slows heartbeat, constricts airway, stimulate digestion, sexual stimulation (penile/labial enlargement)) Neurons: structure- its a main center for transmission of sending and receiving signals. It has everything a regular cell has in its nucleus. (cell body, dendrites, axon, myelin sheath). Axon are where nerve transmissions happen, they send nerve signals throughout the body.
